Hello, I'm Walter Stark, owner of Rec Tek Scuba.
I started diving in 1975 and became a PADI Instructor in 1984. In 1999 I became a TDI and SDI Instructor and a TDI and SDI Instructor Trainer in 2001. I worked at the Colorado Scuba Center in Denver, Colorado as head Instructor from 1984 until moving to Bonaire in 1990. I managed the Sunset Beach Dive Center from 1990 until 1999; then I managed the Great Adventures Dive Center at Harbour Village in Bonaire from 1999 until 2000. In 2000 I opened up my own business, Rec Tek Scuba.
We are more than just recreational diving.
Rec Tek Scuba offers a full range of TDI/SDI courses including Solo Diving, Nitrox, progressing to Rebreathers, Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, Extended Range, up through Advanced Trimix and many others. Instructor level training is also available.
We offer experience programs for those who want to try something different or aren't sure if they want to do a full course. These are generally a one-dive introduction to a cours with minimal classroom time. Get out there and try a Rebreather, Nitrox, or dive an Expedition diving rig.
Rec Tek Scuba's rental department stocks Evolution Rebreathers, Drager Dolphin Rebreathers, high performance regulators, O2 clean regulators, back plates, harnesses, wings, doubles, stage bottles and other Tek diving accessories.
If you own a Rebreather but don't want to travel with the tanks, we have feed bottles, bail out bottles, and Scrubber material available.
"The WindJammer is worth doing at least once. Go see Walt at Rec Tek Scuba, he will guide you through the couple pieces of paperwork. The "hoops" are just because the entry point is behind a fence in a secure area. I spent my final 100 minutes of Normoix trimix on this wreck in June. Lots of fun and plenty of reef while off gassing. Bring a good light. Once in the wreck it is very dark since the tar is soaking it in. Walt will provide some interesting info about the ever-changing nature of this wreck too. Enjoy!"

"Just finished up a week long trip in Bonaire. We stayed at Buddy Dive which worked out fine. The price was right and is conveniently located, and obviously caters to divers! They don't have any support at the resort for CCR, so we got fills and sorb from Walt Stark of Rec Tek Scuba, which is located at Capt. Don's right next door to Buddy Dive. Walt is absolutely great! Instead of having to run back and forth for fills every day, he gave us a bunch of O2 and dil bottles pre-filled and that way we only had to go back twice during the week! He was also able to provide us with Helium for some Trimix dives we were doing. By the way, the Windjammer wreck is the only deep wreck on the island, but it is well worth the price, and hassle of the security procedures to do the dive. (It is located just off of shore next to the oil tanks on the island and is "high security!" We had to hurry and get out of the water due to the fact that a tanker was waiting to shove off!) Any way, the diving is very relaxed and lots of pretty fish! I taught a Trimix class as well as a Hammerhead CCR class while I was here, and thanks to Walt, all of the logistics were very easy to deal with. He has tanks in various sizes, fills and sorb all easily accessible. I would highly recommend him!"

"The recreational diving is very good, but there is some deep stuff as well. If you get a chance dive the deep wall at Karpata or Red Slave Huts and do the Windjammer Wreck up near the BOPEC station. Walt can arranged everything for you. The Windjammer is a slight hassle, as you have to get him a copy of your passport ahead of time so you can be 'cleared'."

We offer guided dives to the following locations for divers who are qualified.
Hilma Hooker
The 236ft freighter Hilma Hooker sunk in September 1984. Lying between a double reef 100ft under water, she provides ample scope for exploration. Beginners can remain at 60ft near the Hull of the wreck, and intermediate divers can explore the open passageways at 70ft.
Hesper
The Hesper, a 40ft long, wood sailboat, was purchased by Captain Don of Captain Don's Habitat and was anchored in front of the Habitat for a complete overhaul. After Hurricane Gilbert ripped past the area, the Hesper was gone. She now lies 130ft under water on a sandy bottom.
Coopers Barge
This 100ft long barge sunk in 1972. Although an attempt was made to salvage this completely intact sunken barge, it only resulted in accidentally moving it to deeper water. At 150ft under water, this dive can only be done when a tanker is not loading fuel.
The WindJammer
Discovered in 1968, The Windjammer is the wreck of the Mairi Bhan, a 240ft bark that sunk off the coast of Bonaire in December 1912. At a depth of 180ft, you will reach the cargo she was carrying and from there you can admire the entire ship. The Windjammer is for advanced divers only.
Anchors of Karpata
Karpata is best known for its numerous double-fluke anchors. Huge colonies of Elkhorn Coral and sponges cover the site, to within ten ft from the surface and reaching down past 200ft. Novice and intermediate divers can pose for pictures alongside one of the many huge ship anchors embedded in the coral.
Anchors of Red Slave
The Red Slave area is located on the West Coast of Bonaire, near the Southern tip of the island. The area is dotted with anchors dating back to 17–1800’s. A good place for a technical dive; advanced divers recommended.
Rec Tek Scuba fully supports the traveling Rebreather diver.
We can meet all your needs. In this day and age with security checks and extra baggage fees we know that bringing your Rebreather is not as easy as it once was. To make it as easy as possible for you we have tanks to fit every Rebreather out there in our rental department and stock both 408 and 797-812 Sofnolime. We can provide O2 compatible air fills, 200 BAR – 3000 psi O2 fills and any Trimix or Heliox you have a card for. Also in our rental department we have Inspiration and Evolution Rebreathers and even a couple of Drager Dolphins. For those that want to travel really light you can just bring your Inspiration or Evolution head and rent the rest of the Rebreather from us. That way you also have all your dives logged on your unit.
We also do Rebreather Adventure dives for those that want to try a Rebreather and see-feel what it is like to dive silent and bubble free.

The Fun Stuff
This is an entry level certification course for recreational divers wishing to utilize Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) as a breathing gas.

The Dives are normally done out front in your own dive equipment. A Nitrox Dive Computer will be supplied for the dives so you can compare your Dive Computer to a Nitrox Dive Computer. So you can see the big difference diving Nitrox makes on your no decompression time.
